The environment and biomedical fields are important issue which needs extensive scientific investigations to understand causal mechanisms which change the state of environment and its consequences on health, livelihood, economy, ecosystem and climate besides ensuring accurate measurements for biomedical and sensor materials applications. CSIR-NPL is among the pioneering institutions in India where research in these fields have started several decades ago. The division comprises of four sub-divisions:
